This report sets out the findings of the final analysis of the SESAME project, a three-year project researching the state of occupational safety and health in micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Europe. The main aim of the analysis was to find out ‘what works, for whom and in which contexts’. One of the key recommendations resulting from this study is that there is a need to strengthen and sustain state systems for regulation and inspection in all EU Member States. The analyses also points to the importance of the involvement of trade unions and employer’s organisations in the development of policies that can reach to MSEs, better integration of OSH into the sector-specific education system and offering sustainable, easily applicable and transferable solutions to MSEs.
