Chief function: A+A

The A+A Congress and trade fair constitute the chief functions of the Basi. The A+A is held in Düsseldorf every two years.

It is the largest meeting of individuals active in the field of occupational safety and health, and is a lea- ding marketplace worldwide for safety and health at work.

The international A+A Congress covers the full breadth of topics relating to safety and health at work, with 60 series of papers and 400 speakers. Topics include:

  • Technical development, demographics, inclusion
  • Political and economic conditions, skills shortage
  • Health, occupational diseases, mental stresses
  • Working environment, hazardous substances, noise
  • Job design, product ergonomics
  • Working hours, labour organization
  • Sectors and special groups of workers

The A+A Congress is attended by over 5,000 experts in safety, health and ergonomics, from companies, public administrations and institutions.

The German OSH award is also presented at the congress.

Another congress element is the „A+A International“, comprising fifteen series of papers; simultaneous interpreting is provided. Partners of the congress are the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), and a growing number of international professional associations.

The congress further includes a large poster exhibition and associated discussion fora, and an art and theatre festival for occupational safety and health topics.

The Safety + Health Meeting Point is a part of the in- ternational trade fair of the A+A. It is organized by the Basi’s members and partners, and brings together the non-commercial organizations within the entire sphere of safety and health at work. The exhibitors, numbering around 80, present concepts, perspectives, strategies, instruments and practical experience of occupational safety and health, using the communi- cation resources of the trade fair.

In close conjunction with the Meeting Point, the Basi co-ordinates the conference programme of the three key subject areas of the A+A trade fair under the hea- ding „A+A Live“.

  • „Safety & Security Innovation Park“, with innova- tive products and services for personal protection, hazardous substances, workplace fire protection and disaster management
  • „Corporate Health Plaza“ with the topic of work- place health promotion, health management, work- life-balance, fitness, and drug prevention
  • „WorkPlaceDesign“ with the focus upon production and office workplaces, ergonomics, and work or- ganization

Membership of the Basi

Membership of the Basi is open to institutions and organizations with a primarily non-material involve- ment in safety and health at work.

Statutory bodies of the Basi

The statutory bodies of the Basi are the members‘ meeting and the governing committee. The gover- ning committee comprises seven natural and six elected members. The chair of the committee rota- tes at intervals of two years between the social part- ners, i.e. the Confederation of German Employers‘ Associations (BDA) and the federal executive board of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB).

Work structures

Four A+A Congress advisory groups have the func- tions of evaluating the responses to the wide-scale call for papers and of preparing the programme of the event. They are responsible for the topics of health, stresses, and occupational safety.

The A+A Safety + Health Meeting Point (TPSG) wor- king group co-ordinates the joint exhibition by the Basi’s members and partners at the international A+A trade fair.

The A+A special events (conference of employees‘ representative bodies; entrepreneur’s conference; meeting of public-sector managers; safety delega- te’s conference) are each prepared and co-ordinated in a dedicated working group.

The three topic-oriented working groups for corpo- rate health, ergonomics/WorkPlaceDesign and reha- bilitation, integration, inclusion were formed for pre- paration and wider discussion of the A+A activities.

The Basi assumes responsibility for organization and topics of the A+A Congress and for its continual development. The Basi and its members join forces in presenting the Safety + Health Meeting Point (TPSG) at the A+A trade fair.
