Visitors from all over the world descend on 36th A+A Congress 2019

The 36th International Congress for Occupational Safety and Health attracted around 5,000 visitors. International delegations came from Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh, as well as from Eastern Europe. The events at the CCD Congress Centre Düsseldorf were well attended from day one. The panel discussion on ‘Good Work Worldwide’ attracted a particularly large audience. International representatives discussed concrete actions and legal regulations for changing working conditions, social conditions and supply chains in countries such as Myanmar, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Politicians, entrepreneurs, practitioners from OSH authorities and representatives from the social security authorities sat down at the same table to work together. The aim is Vision Zero – the vision of a world without work-related accidents and illnesses. This was also the topic of discussion of the Vision Zero Business Council (Vision Zero), which was held in English, as well as discussions on the future of work and occupational safety in Europe and ‘Innovation in Prevention’ (an ISSA event). Other popular events held in English were the meetings for the ENSHPO and ENETOSH networks.

Additional important topics at the 36th International A+A Congress included the measurement of musculoskeletal strain and the challenges of mobile work. There was also a great deal of interest in the latest technological developments for supporting people with disabilities in their working life. Examples of these technologies included exoskeletons and innovative assistance systems, which were presented at their own special events. The wide-ranging and exciting programme on the stages for ‘Safety & Security’ and ‘Health & Workplace Design’ in the exhibition halls attracted large audiences. The final event set the stage for university students studying occupational safety and health to have the first ever Prevention Slam hosted by Basi. The winner was Max Osswald with his piece ‘Die at Your Workplace’, in which he protested against the bad treatment of domestic ghosts in the workplace.

The 37th International A+A Congress will take place from 26 to 29 October 2021.
