Gerard I.J.M. Zwetsloot, PhD
Gerard I.J.M. Zwetsloot is independent researcher and consultant based in the Netherlands; earlier he was senior researcher at the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, TNO, and honorary professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam (NL, 1998-2006) and Nottingham University (UK, 2007-2019).
He holds a BSc in chemistry and physics, an MSc in chemistry (University Utrecht) and a PhD in Social Sciences (Leiden University). His work focuses on innovative approaches for safety, health and wellbeing at work and the relationship with business excellence, and/or corporate social responsibility. The last few years his work is mainly focused on Vision Zero and the development of a proactive prevention culture.
Gerard Zwetsloot is regularly involved in research and development projects for national and international bodies and in strategic consultancy for major companies. He is frequently invited as a (keynote) speaker for national and international conferences and has generated a wide range of publications.
Summer 2025 his book Vision Zero at Work - Strategies for Sustainable Excellence in Safety, Health and Wellbeing was published.
In 2019 Gerard Zwetsloot received the Mukaidono Safety Award – a life time achievement award - from the Institute of Global Safety Promotion in Tokyo.
